(Two threads in one day? That’s rare for me!) Anyways, just a thought I was curious on. With OoT Remake inevitable, I’ve been questioning whether it would spoil my appetite to pick up Twilight Princess Dusk… meanwhile on ResetEra, you’ve got people talking about how they plan on relaying the OG OoT in preparation.

It depends on the franchise and how long it takes to beat a game another time. Games that take 50+ hours to beat? I only ever beat those once. Games that are shorter (8-12 hours) there is a good chance I will replay older titles. Ie. I replayed the Halo franchise before Infinite came out.

If the upcoming game is a direct sequel and the narrative carries over, then yes, i usually replay games in preparation for the new release. However, this is only if its been a while since I beat the game. If ive beaten it in the last 2 years or so i wont replay it probably.

If the upcoming game doesnt follow any narrative the previous one set, and its an entirely self-contained experience, like it happens in the Final Fantasy or Monster Hunter franchises, then no, i generally wont replay the latest entry.

Oh that’s a good question.

I generally won’t replay previous games in the franchise that I’ve already beaten, simply because I’m already overwhelmed with current releases and my backlog. However, I will seek out and play (for the first time) earlier franchise installments if there’s a significant narrative connection.

It's not something I think I've done before. But in theory, it's something I would do since I tend to replay games a lot.

I don't have much capacity to anticipate playing games that have not yet been released.

Explanation: unlike the vast majority of people on this site, anticipating games much in advance of their release is typically an exercise in frustration for me; and it seems to be the case most of the time dating back to at least the original Ocarina of Time; most recently, probably the Suikoden Remaster collection and Breath of the Wild. We were talking about ADHD in another thread (which I have), so this is probably linked to that. My general inclination these days is to ignore games until they're on the Switch EShop with a date and a price: most games go up 1 to 3 weeks before release.

Nope. Would love to, I get the intent, but simply not enough time. I wanted to replay 1,2,3,4,7 and 8 before RE9.. but ain't got the time.

Yes I feel the need to replay before the sequel... Wish I didn't.

Because I want to play Jedi Survivor but I feel like I need to play Jedi Fallen Order again first lol. I don't have time so I'll try and force myself to just jump into the sequel without a refresher.

Never. Not with games or movies.

Sometimes.
