Forums - Gaming - Predictions? Hopes? Summer Games Fest 2026 (+ Others)

The “(+ Others)” refers to gaming presentations generally throughout late-May/June. So, for instance, Nintendo Directs, State of Plays, that one 40th Anniversary Dragon Quest presentation that’s inbound, etc.

Me personally I’m hopeful for two things: (i) FFVII Remake: Part III. (ii) The upcoming 3D mainline Sonic. Also would love to see a bit more on Bradley the Badger, Ocarina of Time Remake, whatever else Nintendo and Sony have cooking, as well as what’s up with the XBOX Helix.

As for pie-in-the-sky wishes? New 3D Rayman, a new Mario+Rabbids, GTAVI marketing cycle begins, and Stellar Blade 2.

Waiting for that supposed Sega developed wipeout title to be announced. The same rumour correctly got the bandai namco developing playstation ip right so it seems credible...

Crash/Spyro showing up would be nice, especially as it's crash 30th anniversary. Even if it's just updates of nsane/nitro fueled for current consoles I'll be happy lol.

I just wanna see some exciting megaton Nintendo games; a new 3D Mario, a new Xenoblade or similar epic game from Monolith Soft, something like that.

Just looking to be surprised.
No predictions, no hopes in any direction.

If I could have any game: remasters of Xenogears, Pixel Remaster of Chrono Trigger, and more Quintet games: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time, Terranigma; maybe ActRaiser was a test and it didn’t do well enough… but come on, ActRaiser is the most archaic one of the four; less marketable, Terranigma holds up better than the other three, IMO. None of these games are any more likely than they have been in the last 9 years.

EDIT: Add Skies of Arcadia to that list. It's ridiculous that such a gem of a game hasn't yet had a wide release on a major console.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

You’re gonna need to wait at least til next year if you’re looking for anything like that, though it’d be cool to get a glimpse of the next 3D Mario! Even if the release isn’t until holiday 2027.

I don't expect a new 3D Mario to come out this year, but if we don't at least get something big beyond just the rumored remakes and remasters that'd be a huge fail for Nintendo honestly. With the price hike coming up, Nintendo needs to start dropping bombs if they want to avoid their hardware sales tanking.

Im just waiting for something on Shadow Man Darque Legacy. Hopefully its not cancelled.

I'd really love to take a peak at FF VII Part 3, Pokémon Winds/Waves and the next Zelda.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Curl, respectfully, get a grip. This is a terrible mentality to hold: Here we have three “bombs” in the form of Ocarina of Time, Splatoon Raiders, and Pokémon WiWa, alongside already released “bombs” such as Pokopia, Tomodachi, Legends Z-A, DK Bananza, and MKWorld, and you’re still worried about Switch 2 not providing an enticing software offering? You act like 3D Mario is the only thing that’ll convince somebody to purchase a Switch 2, but have you not seen how Pokopia has moved units? Come on now.

I say this not to shame but to hopefully correct this unhealthily negative perception of yours. It’s not all doom and gloom just because Nintendo hasn’t revealed the upcoming 3D Mario— have you forgotten that a 3D Zelda and new Splatoon, further NS1 enhancement support, Pokopia (a game which attracts Animal Crossing consumers), and mainline Pokémon will move units?

Splatoon Raiders will boost hardware significantly in Japan, but probably not in the West. Wind/Waves is also a 2027 title, so it could be up to 18 months off.

DK Bananza is a great game, one of my favourites of 2025, but it doesn't really seem to have been a killer app sales wise, while Legends Z-A and Tomodachi are Switch 1 titles so limited in their ability to shift Switch 2 consoles.

As for big games, it doesn't need to be 3D Mario; a new Smash Bros or Animal Crossing would also be a big system seller if done right.
