Forums - Gaming - Valve New Hardware Launching Early 2026 - Steam Machine, Steam Frame, Steam Controller

New steam pages have just appeared for Valves new hardware:

Steam Frame

Steam Frame is a PC, and runs SteamOS powered by a Snapdragon® 8 Series Processor. With 16GB of RAM, Steam Frame supports stand-alone play on a growing number of both VR and non-VR games without needing to stream from your PC. Quick suspend/resume. Cloud saves. All the features of SteamOS that make for a great user experience are now available in VR. Just like any SteamOS device, install your own apps, open a browser, do what you want: It's your PC.

Just like Steam Deck and Steam Machine, Steam Frame will have a verified program that helps you see which games in your library (VR and non-VR) will work stand-alone.

Steam Machine

Steam Machine runs Valve’s gaming-first operating system. SteamOS is designed to provide a plug-and-play user experience, while keeping the power and flexibility of a PC. Experience SteamOS in the same way as other Steam hardware, like Steam Deck and Steam Frame. Yes, Steam Machine is optimized for gaming, but it's still your PC. Install your own apps, or even another operating system. Who are we to tell you how to use your computer? We are expanding our Verified program to include ratings for Steam Machine, so customers can understand how their games will run.

Steam Machine comes with a built-in wireless adapter, just for pairing with Steam Controller. (Up to four with a single adapter!) This means you can pair your Steam Controller without its puck, and you can wake your Steam Machine without leaving your couch. With enough horsepower to take on the most demanding games, Steam Machine is the perfect host PC for streaming to other devices. Easily stream to your Steam Deck, Steam Frame, or any other device running Steam or Steam Link.

Steam Controller

Steam Controller was designed with all the inputs for all your games. Paired with Steam Input, it’s the ultimate customizable controller. Thanks to its input parity with Steam Deck, Steam Controller will be pre-populated with community configurations for thousands of games from day one, or you can make and share your own. Steam Controller comes with magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology, designed for improved feel, responsiveness and long-term reliability. They also support capacitive touch to enable motion controls.

A 512GB and 2 TB version for the Machine, 6 times the steam deck, it all sounds good. Just don't like the controller

Can't tell the HW is powerfull? How does it compare? to series x and PS5 pro?

Edit: Keep forgetting that RX 6000 series is RDNA 2 not 3. Steam Machine GPU might be closer to on par with ps5 than I said previously.

CPU should be a fair bit better though with Zen 4 and much higher clocks, even if it has less threads.

As an owner of the original steam controller... I also don't like the look of the new controller, but any USB controller will work with the steam machine so not really an issue.

The Steam Controller is 100% a Steam Deck, but without the screen lol.

Everything looks great though! Being able to play your entire Steam library with a VR headset is a nice incentive for players to buy one rather than exclusively having it for VR-only games.

The Steam Machine looks like an awesome affordable PC to get into the ecosystem. I might pick it up for my living room TV. Have my office gaming PC (hopefully Valve drops a proper desktop version of SteamOS soon now that the Steam Machine is happening) Steam Machine for living room, and Steam Deck for when lazying around on the coach/bed, or when I'm on the go.

Valve really is casualizing PC gaming. Love it!

I like that steam machine, something like that will be my entry to pc gaming when this console gen ends. Looking at the description however I wonder why it says HDMI 2.0 (not 2.1) and why it has no ethernet port?

It's weaker in GPU than the PS5/XSX. It's basically a desktop RX 6600. Whereas the RX 6600 XT is a better match for the PS5. So the PS5/XSX have roughly 20-30% more GPU power.

CPU should be a fair bit better though with Zen 4 and much higher clocks, even if it has less threads.

Then it also could mean that the machine will be rather cheap as in 700$ range?  Controller probably be +100$ =p

Here’s to hoping this could be sold in major retailers. Otherwise, I just don’t see an audience such a device.

If you’ve got Steam set up on your PC, why purchase a weaker version of your PC? And if you don’t have a PC, then chances are you don’t have Steam… so you either (i) won’t know about this device, or (ii) would be better off purchasing a more powerful PS5 unless priced competitively.

Only audience I could see is those looking to enter the Steam ecosystem but not wanting a PC.

Steam Machine looks nice, what is the price?

If they can hit $699 for the 2TB model I think it would be very nice. Much more and it starts getting a bit rough with those specs. It's definitely a device with budget built in mind considering it's using old tech for both the cpu/gpu, and low-midrange in pc terms at that.

The size is quite nice, it's significantly smaller than the Series X at 4.09 Litres, instead of 6.86 Litres.

It does have an eternet port. Gigabit.

PC gaming is primarily used with DisplayPort, so I'm guessing that's why it has HDMI 2.0. Not as important.
