Forums - Microsoft - Halo Campaign Evolved announced for Xbox Series, PC, and PS5

Welp, there it is. We lived to see the day that Halo is multiplatform

As the name suggests, the game is a remake of the first Halo's single player campaign, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and releasing in 2026.

Does this mark the end of Xbox v PlayStation? (“Halo is on PlayStation going forward.”) This feels like a watershed moment, like when Sega announced their plans to release future Sonic titles on formerly-rival systems.

Also, this game looks incredible. That’s a day one purchase.

The same way Sega Dreamcast games started going over to the Gamecube after 2 generations of the Super Nintendo vs Mega Drive war.

Xbox Series games are going over to the Playstation 5 after 2 generations of the Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 war.

History repeats itself.

MS said future Halo games will use Gen AI, so if this is one of those, it's already a worse game than Virtual Hydlide on the SEGA Saturn.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Overall it looks good. It remains faithful from comparisons.

...But the typical Unreal Engine 5 bug-bears are rearing their ugly head with your typical Lumen and Nanite visual bugs and issues... Most notable you can see the "light flickering" on the Silent Cartographer forerunner reflective surfaces.

...Also betting there will be shitty compilation stutters on PC considering how bog-stadard the build of UE5 they are using is.

Still would have preferred a remake of Halo 3 considering we have already had a remake of Halo CE, Halo 3 was the best selling title in the franchise and was the most played Xbox 360 game for years after release until it was dethroned by Call of Duty.

Smart move long-term. More players = better for everyone and less wait time. If I can stay on the same XB, controller, and ecosystem then don't care where gamers originate from in my multplayer battles. Microsoft pursuing the software sales is where the money will be.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

I was expecting much stronger switch 2 support from MS. Gears and now Halo seemingly skipping and even with the contract they signed CoD isn't coming yet either. At least fallout is.

Nintendo was apparently very late in sending out devkits, and porting takes time. The system's only a few months old.

Tony Hawk and Indiana Jones show they're willing to bring their stuff over, I'd be surprised if Forza/Gears/Halo/COD don't make their way over in 2026.

Halo doesn't even have a date though, just "2026". Why can't they commit to it coming to Switch 2? Even if the porting process still hasn't started they could slap a switch 2 logo on if their intention is to bring it.

I see a few possibilities.

One, they could be holding back a Switch 2 version for a Direct next year, like with say Cronos The New Dawn or RE Requiem.

Another is that Campaign Evolved specifically looks to be a UE5 game with all that engine's typical features and problems, so it may simply be difficult to get it onto Switch 2 in a decent state right now, as UE5 seems to be in its infancy in terms of supporting Switch 2.
