There's tons of Wi-Fi standards these days, and 5GHz Wi-Fi offers a huge improvement over the 2.4GHz standard in terms of speed and interference. Do you expect the NX will use this? Or will they pull a 3DS on us and opt for slower G Wi-Fi?

By the way, the Wii U had a 5GHz chip used exclusively for Gamepad streaming, so Nintendo is well aware of how good the tech is. 

They won't use the 5ghz band only. It's the reason the gamepad signal gets messed up. If it goes between a few walls. It probably will offer both. But most people will be using the 2.4 one. I disabled my 5 band channel, on my AC router. Even if you have a 100Mb internet line. The 2.4 band is perfectly fine for it. VS the crappy signal 5 causes. Most console services never let you download, at that speed, to begin with. The PS website limited my download speed, of the system update to 3MB/s. And I can reach over 25MB/s. If the site/service supports that.

Haven't noticed any difference between 5 and 2.4 GHz on my home router. Well, except from the fact that the 5 GHz range is so short that it only works if I'm in the living room. Speed-test.net doesn't show any difference either. I think if you have bad internet on a 2.4 GHz connection, your ISP is your problem.


That said, I don't know what kind of Wi-Fi chip the NX will have, though I assume it will be able to accept both 2.4 and 5 GHz signals. But to be completely honest I don't care.

I really doubt they would only go 2.4 unless they cheap out on the card, which they didn't do for the Wii U. That does sound like Nintendo though... 

For people who live in fully attached homes like I do, 2.4GHz is massively prone to interference. I went through three routers and still no luck with it. I hope Nintendo doesn't drop the ball again, because I would very much like to keep on playing online.

802.11ac for the NX would definitely help with online play around the house, and iron out these communication error woes a lot of people in my neighbourhood have.

Also, faster download speeds. You can easily max out your available bandwidth with AC technology.
