There is a good chance that VR (for playstation and most likely other platforms aswell) will just amplify your gaming experience. If they allow for any game to be shown in 3d space (artificial screen) Then you would be able to use VR in a way that would allow you to play your games on a huge screen.

I don't understand what you mean by switch back to standard controller since you can use any controller in VR. The motion controllers are just best if you want direct player input like a hand in the game or something. You can still use a regular controller for a lot of the experiences.

standart games wont run in VR, scince it would take alot more ressources to run games in vr compared to on a screen. 30 fps and co arnt possible on vr.

This is not even close to what i said. Running the game in VR is not hard when you literally just have the game running on a 2d plane inside 3d space.

Now I am trying to imagine a killer app (in terms of games) that could launch alongside VR to hook the crowd much like Wii Sports did.

Any ideas anyone?

1) porn

2) virtual concerts (like Payperview, but you get to be at a concert, at the comfort of your home).

3) virtual turism (rent a drone, that you can drive around (its a physical kart, with camras), you remote controle from your home).

4) Exploration (nasa are makeing high quality maps, for a virtual "tour" of mars. Walking simulators).

5) Horror / racers / first person shooters.

Im sure theres more, but theres bound to be things that VR will make the "best" experiance possible with.

Like people will try VR and go "theres no way im ever playing another game like this, not VR".

VR will always stay a gimmick until it allows you to walk and do everyday stuff with it. As long as it'll isolate you from real world it'll stay a hardcore product.

You could say the same about desktop computers.. But they are pretty popular. Sold hundreds and millions.

Computers don't isolate you from real life and now that they come in the form of tablets you can walk with them no problem. A lot of those computers are sold to companies, families and other areas where people need constant interactions. Not everyone is living alone. For gaming I think it'll be great for those that want it but then again it's a solo experience imo.

Why does it matter to be able to walk and do everyday stuff with it?

My desktop, my TV, my video game systems, they are all stationary things.  I don't know about you, but you don't see this ever:

There's already tons of work going into it, so it isn't an isolated product.

PSVR puts a display on the TV for example.

There's room for stuff like this:

Why it matters? Because a lot of people use computers for different uses. I wouldn't work on my computer  constantly if I had to be isolated from the real world let alone go to work with a VR, then VR at home... please.

I'm not saying that VR is bad or anything. I just think some people are overstimating the casual appeal of devices like that. It'll be like Wii imo, fun at first then tireing in the long run.

I VR is the new TV. Its a differnt way to consume media and its going to eventually have as big a impact as the TV did.
Maybe Im over estimateing it, but I feel like alot of people are grossly doing the same the other way around.

50 years from now, I wouldnt be surprised if every member of a family inside their house, all had their own VR headset.

Like how today, many houses have multiple TVs (one for each room more or less).

This. There is no real way around it. It doesn't even matter if it sticks for gamers or not, but VR will become huge. There is a reason Facebook bought Oculus.

Killer app for VR: Myst was a great surprise hit with universal appeal back in the day. A slow exploration adventure where you can really examine the environment might work. The big selling point of Myst was immersion.

I imagine something like Endless Ocean in VR, just on the mini-sub. There's an old OR demo called Deep Echo where you are in mini sub and though very basic "gaming" experience, it was my first VR experience where I knew this craze is something else.

All folks from work who tried it where blown away as well with immersion VR enbles...and funny thing is, all of them (myself included) tried to grab and interact with things around the cockpit, which is currently major flaw of OR vs VIVE for such titles.

Sounds great.
I imagine simulation games will become more popular too, especially with motion controls where you can actually fiddle with all the controls.
Or a VR version of the sims, co-op and all. RTS / God games might get a rivival too. It's a good time to go back to simpler controls, back to the basics. And it will help immensely in any game where you build things. Much easier to see how to place things.
Plus all the new experiences that we don't know off yet :) It could be a new golden age in gaming.

2020..

Olympic games.. Superbowl.. and most big things.. avalible in VR

All new phones can show VR

Most VR sets will have a 180 degree cam in front.. (meaning AR and VR melt together)

A mimic sensor (letting your avatar express fellings) will also be standard

Well TV brought people together in the living room. Cellphones seem to remove that togetherness and you want VR to close people from the real world... hop not. What I'm refering to is not VR but AR but I get your point. To me not interacting with the real world is the worst thing unless you are in a room where you are alone and not needed.
