Forums - PC Discussion - HTC Unveils the New HTC Vive, the Redesigned Vive Pre

HTC promised to reveal a ‘very, very big breakthrough’ for this edition of the device and this appears to be present in the Vive Pre. It’s a redesigned HMD with a ‘brighter’ display and a front-facing camera that can integrate the real world into VR, allowing players to locate real world objects without needing to take the HMD off. The controllers have been redesigned too, including ‘updated ergonomics and softer edges, greater balance, new textured buttons, and grip pads for a more comfortable feel in the hand.’

looks like its going to be more expensive than expecting...

Hmmm, that is a nice addition putting that camera on so you can see without taking it off. I am really leaning towards the Vive over the Oculus. Price is going to be a huge deciding factor for many.

I honestly fail to see how that is a big breakthrough worth a 3 months delay.

Unless that camera and the "integration of real world into VR" sentence means that Vive will not only be a Virtual Reality device, but also an Augmented Reality one like MSoft's HoloLens.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

The camera in the front is really nice, every VR headset should have something like that! That way you can have VR and AR! Anyway, I'm still buying PlayStation VR, because I don't have a PC, only a Mac. =D

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

With Valve behind it, I think Vive has more chance than Oculus...if the price is right.

This is going to be...very expensive.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

That's my thinking too. I have a huge Steam catalog and the fact that they are open source is another huge plus to me. I just don't want to shell out $500+ for this. I am really wary of the pricing.

You should add Valve in the title.. No one cares about HTC alone..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Valve should have designed it headcrab-style
