There are a lot of franchises that, after years or even decades of being very niche, appearing on marginal platforms, or just never being localized, suddenly get a surprise hit title that makes the series indcredibly popular. And maybe, people gets interested in what came before, only to discover it's really hard to find and play. Also, some plot elements (plotpoints, ideas, characters, events...) might be difficult to get without knowledge from older titles.

Enter the updated collection. Either by remaking every prior game individually, or making it a full collection, these titles help the new fanbase to play those older titles that may be hard to find or play, updating the looks and gameplay to match modern standars.

Which series needs an updated collection? Keep in mind, I'm asking for franchises that were very obscure and/or niche prior to a great breakthrough. Per example:

-The SMT series was very small until Persona 3 and 4 arrived, now it's very popular, so it counts.

-The halo franchise doesn't count, because despite Halo 3 breaking a lot of records, Halo 1 and 2 were really popular on their own.

My personal choice would be the Fire Emblem series. It dates from the NES era, and a lot of those games are unaccessible without the use of emulators and patched versions (part of the Akaenia saga, the Jugdral saga and the Elibe saga). After Awakening and Fates being such hits, people would be interesting in finally playing these older titles.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Fallout I guess

I'd personally love a Dead Rising updated collection, even though the games are partially popular (million seller) and a collection (sorta) already exists. It's not fitting to OP's, but I say it nonetheless.

On the other hand, a Tales of updated collection would be awesome. There are great games prior to Symphonia, which was kinda the breakthrough.

Ratchet & Clank Future trilogy. Well, that depends on what you mean by *need*, but I'd love it anyway...

EDIT: So I read the OP, and I was way of mark as to what the intention of the thread was. I guess that's what happens when you post first and ask questions later.

Multiple Megami Tensei rerelease would be great, especially if the original books gets an international release or at least an official english release to go with it.
Final Fantasy 6 still needs the DS treatment.
The first two Deus Ex could also use a rerelease.

Don't worry. It can happen to everyone :)
