The 3DS has had a very rocky lifespam, between the first year scare and mobile damaging its momentum, the 3DS has underperformed when compared to its inmediat predecessor, the monstruous DS. However, it's very interesting that, in number of million sellers, the 3DS is pretty close in million sellers to the original GameBoy, first handheld to reach the milestone of one hundred million units of hardware sold (and maybe the first piece of videogame dedicated hardware to reach 100m too? Which system reached it first, the GB or the original PS?).

If we included digital, we could probably see a couple more games, and with FE Fates, Super Mystery Dungeon, Youkai Watch 3, Monster Hunter X, a possible Pokemon Z, and others, there is a strong possibility that the 3DS could surpass the GB in million sellers.

What do you think? Will the 3DS pass the GB, or is it too close to the end of its lifecycle?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

For sure million sellers:
-Monster Hunter X
-Monster Hunter Stories
-Yokai Watch 3
-Fire Emblem Fates
-Dragon Quest XI
-Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (unless it seriously underperforms)
-Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon (same as above)
-Pokemon Z (if it happens)

Possible:
-Hyrule Warriors Legends
-Final Fantasy Explorers
-Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3

And then other stuff should leg it out like TriForce Heroes. Plus possible localizations like Rhythm Heaven and Dragon Quest VIII. This is possible surely, just not 100%.

Also, Mario Tennis Open is undertracked on here. Was confirmed 1m a while ago (I think another game was too. I made a thread like this vs the PSP, but I don't remember what it was).

Yeah, probably.

Yeah, if we included digital then i would say YES! It would beat it. For now, maybe come very close around 50.

Pocky Lover Boy!

If it happens:
MH
DQ
FE
and Yokai is why!

The 3DS is going to be pretty hard pressed to get another 15 million sellers. But accounting for future releases it has at least a handful left (MHX, MH Stories, DQ XI, YW 3, Pokémon Z) and those will more than likely be multi-million sellers at that.

Well, you also have to take into account those games that have sold 0,9m already and probably crossed the million mark thanks to digital numbers a long time ago. I'm sure there are less than 10 games left to reach the 55 million sellers.

Very true. I was going to mention digital but just assumed we were strictly sticking with VGC numbers.  Man, I kind of wish VGC did do digital numbers so we can have a more accurate picture..

Definitely has a chance, but it really depends when the successor is released

I have a good feeling it can do it.

I will start having doubts if the next portable is announced very soon, however.
