We haven't talked about the XB1 enough.

( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

I've been thinkin, Why was cable so important in XB1's early marketting and design?

Especially, with the decline of cable and movent to digital services like netflix etc, wouldn't it make more sense to join the apple tv and chromebox thingy bandwagon and say screw cable as well?

Perhaps the XB1 was two or three years late?

They were paid by cable companies. Simple as that. Cable companies wanted other ways to entice people, to keep their stuff. Or get their stuff.

I had Direct Tv in the past, but have had cable again for about the past 15 years. DTV was great until it snowed, or rained too hard, then i lost the signal.

I am not a huge X1 guy, but I still will comment, and no, not because I always comment.

I am assuming your are talking about Comcast type cable? I must say that despite the crazy price of 100 dollars or more, cable is really good. On demand, 100's of channels, free premium channels, etc. Comcast is everywhere in Illinois! To be honest, I never see AT&t commercials besides one for the recent merger, but I even think that was made by comcast to make fun of them. Comcast trucks are everywhere and everywhere I go people are using comcast.

Maybe it is bigger than you think? But I could be talking about something different than you, so sorry and excuse me if I am mistaken.

While people have started to move away from cable recently, there are still alot of people that have no desire to cut the cord, or try to keep up with technology. Just like there are alot of people that don't want physical media to go away.

Digital by definition so to speak is on demand avaliable nearly everywhere, and every where comcast is since comcast offers internet.  P

My wife is the only thing stopping me from cutting the cord.  She insists that we have to have cable because "we are grown ass adults and adults have cable."  Without her around I would've gone full streaming/downloading years ago.

That said, one of my favorite features on my XB1 is the FiOS app that is gonna let me watch the Patriots game tonight on my new gaming TV with surround sound instead of the 7 year old plasma with no surround sound.

The Xbone has Hulu and Netflix and all that other stuff already built in. And it can cater to people with cable/satellite.

The cable cutting people would opt for a $50-100 Roku device or a $35 Chromecast before a $500 Xbox One.

Xbox supports digital stuff thats why you might see achievements for Netflix but as of right now the majority of people own cables so yeah.

Not just cable. Pretty much everything that can entertain. Music, movies, TV, games, exercise, video chat, porn, Blu Ray--they tried to make a box that could do it all easily.

But people mostly want games. So now, the focus is on games.
