What benefits does Nintendo gets releasing the NX a year and a half after announcement?

1. Consumers trust - At this point it's likely that all of their big teams are already on the succesor, and it will show poor support that will affect the NX perception on launch as a product that company will not support, just like the Wii U.

2. Nintendo may be still developing big Wii U games for 2016 and 2017- In this case, it will means all those teams will release their next games very late on NX life span and history will repeat.

3. All the Nintendo consoles have a 6 year cycle - Lie. N64 and NGC was only 5 years.

4. Wii... - Wii sold 100M, Wii U only 10.

5. Normally it should be at least 5 years - At this point it's unlikely they will have anything worthy for 2017 or we fall in answer number 1 or 2. This E3 has already focused on games launching nearly and we have already the official mention of the next console from Weggie's mouth. Plus, we gain nothing if for an extra year without games.

History say they will announce at E3 2016 and release on holiday 2017, but, what benefits does Nintendo get announcing a new platforma year and a half before release? Wouldn't that kill the few sales of Wii U? Wouldn't that means they need to fall on answer number 2 and release big projects to maintain the little interest in the console, but at the same time will affect their next games on NX?

Its easier to show a console to the whole world/developers at once and its enough time to make games for it.

Can't they show developers the new console behind curtains? Is it really needed to show firstly at E3 before developers start doing games?

Nintendo should take its time on the developement of the NX. Have a lot of games and release them regularly to avoid droughts. They shouldn't rush things.

Also, I'm sure Nintendo knows that, once the NX is announced and showed to the world, the WiiU sales are going to plummet like a rock. During that period of time they are barely going to sell a console, and that is going to hurt Nintendo finantially. So once announced, the system has to come out as quickly as possible, or making a WiiU pricecut so radical Nintendo gets ridd of all its stock. Announcing the system on E3 and releasing it during holydays is the least harmful way to do it.

sure they show it to some but not to all theres too many of them.. also the word gets out and you basically have a year and a half of free advertising.

Agree. The price cut could be a solution, but it must be significant and at the same time must be done in a way doesn't affect Nintendo, but I jave the feeling that a large price cut will make the Wii U going in red, so it will hurt more than benefit.

Wii U advertising was not positive. And didn't get many games.

I've put my line in the sand multiple times now.

Q1 2016 is when I believe we'll get some NX information to start. Name, outline of platform, game demos (tech included), and holiday 2016 launch.

E3 2016 is when we'll get a full blowout of crazy NX information including price and actual launch dates plus confirmed launch titles with playable demos. As well as any final tidbits of info they purposefully left out in the Q1 nintendo direct.

Q3 nintendo direct will re-iterate any information, dates, bundles, etc. Plus a bunch more titles/demos etc.



All the while there will be some 3DS/WiiU titles still mentioned throughout 2016 (first three quarters) plus the Zelda title that will be on WiiU plus NX.


Its happening.

If they rush the release, they will quickly be in the same place that they are with the Wii U. Good launch or no, droughts down the road are going to taper off sales dramatically.

Fall 2017 is the perfect release window.
