Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo & Cookies: A story of copyright in a random Chinese bakery

Little excerpt from the article:

"Nintendo has seized a large quantity of copyright infringing cookies featuring popular game characters, fearing that these could cause health issues for gaming fans. The cookies were produced in China where Nintendo managed to stop future distribution at a 'pirate' bakery."

- Nintendo stopped the pirate baking (that's a new one for me) of cookies featuring the image of Nintendo characters in China.

- The manufacturing of these cookies was stopped when the manafacturer agreed to Nintendo's request to halt production using their characters.

- Nintendo has also stopped the selling of merchandise featuring (or trying to feature) characters of their ownership in Asia, like the phone cover and incredibly awesome and well made backpack bellow:

The big strong anti-piracy reach of Nintendo.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Wow, I mean videos and whatnot of Nintendo's content on YouTube is one thing, but cookies?!

LOL

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Guess I can't eat my triforce cookies in China then :( Nintendo y u do dis???

And here I thought this thread was dead on arrival.

This kind of makes sense from Nintendo. A company is making cookies with whatever they are making them and using Nintendo characters for a product of unknown quality.

They are not asking for permission, neither paying royalties and I don't think there is even much profit Nintendo could take away from having their characters exposed in this fashion.

Maybe this cookies are so bad that children get sick eating them and moms be like: "I am not buying anything with that fat fuck in red." This business doesn't help Nintendo in any way I can think of, though I doubt they would sell much in China either to experience any brand harm.

Yeah, nintendo did this because of the potential "health hazard", and now the kids who were buying the cookies go back to eating their scorpion poison glands and batwing soup. Real Chinese cuisine is a lot like fallout survival food, horrifying but you gotta eat.

This is actually interesting. If the cookies didn't look like Nintendo characters, they wouldn't sell. Besides the health issues, this does sound greedy though.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

all it takes is one person getting seriously sick from a food product with their (Nintendo's) name plastered all over it for a lawsuit or a bad reputation to pop up. obviously Nintendo doesn't care if people in their own kitchen draw Mario with icing on a cookie but to manufacture low quality baked goods on a large scale for profit with Nintendo's IPs- I can see the issue
