If you're running windows 7 or windows 8, there should be a small icon in your taskbar which allows you to reserve your free upgrade of Windows 10. Windows 10  is releasing on July 29th and is free to everyone who has either Windows 7 or Windows 8. I'm pretty excited!

I think you can still upgrade even if you haven't reserved a copy. Microsoft still hasn't cleared this up though:

"Microsoft hasn’t yet explained any details about how, when, or if the company will start charging for Windows, however it seems likely that you’ll still have a chance to get the free upgrade if you don’t reserve it now."
