Forums - Gaming - PS4 dominance will bring back The third party exclusives ?

Nah, not while the Xbox One is still pushing out respectable numbers in the West.

It should mean less exclusives for the competition though.

Only for certain types of games, but not for any major releases. SCE generally doesn't buy exclusive publishing rights from developers for games (they have done plenty of exclusive DLC deals) as the last important title that comes to mind is MGS 4 from 2008.

Independent games from small studios who really have to pick where their development dollars go to will likely prioritize PS4 publication (hence MS feeling the need for their parity clause), but these games generally aren't what comes to mind when thinking exclusive games or even the ever popular trend of "console exclusive."

There could be a fair amount of Japanese market games that remain on the PS4, simply because the XBO market in Japan is for all intents and purposes DOA.

If anything, the market may end up seeing more Tomb Raider 2 style major release, MS bought exclusives on the XBO as MS tries various options to recover marketshare.

Ps2 era exclusive games from third party were common, and with The ps3 and Xbox 360 multiplat became The norm and there were almost no third party exclusives, with few excepetions and probably loads of money to buy them.

With this gen will third party exclusives, that werent bought by manufcaturers, be common again?

Ps3 has a lot of exclusive third party as far as J-RPGs are concerned.

If you are in Japan or like games from Japan, then yes.

If you are from North America or Europe and like games from those places, then I expect very few.

its already the case with the PS3 vs the 360. The PlayStation 3 gets pretty much every JRPG and japanese style game while xbox doesnt, as well as every free to play game like Tekken Revolution.

The Xbox 360 started to have more JRPGs but due to sales japanese developers dont see a reason why they should spent the time and money making an xbox port and the western install base is also larger on the ps3 anyways.

This will get even worse in this generation as the xbox one isnt even as dominating in the west like the ps4 is and almost nothing in japan, see akiba strip thats already an exclusive the xbox doesnt have while ps3 and ps4 do.

And it seems like so worse japanese companies do in the west so more they will leave the xbox and also go to sony for funding, bloodborne is a good example dark souls didnt do well in the west and now the next game is a sony exclusive, capcom is very low on money so their next game deep down is also a sony exclusive. And same case for bayonetta 2 another game the xbox fraction doesnt get because the xbox isnt doing well in japan and bayonetta 1 didnt do well enough in the west. I am pretty sure sony cant wait to buy capcom as soon as they make more profits with the ps4.

Same way with free to play games, sony allows free to play games to be free unlike MS even if you dont have a playstation plus subscription on your ps4 you can still play games like War Thunder or Blacklight Retribution on your ps4, online. Same story on ps3.
So every free to play game will not come out on an xbox console until MS chances its policies.

MS now also has this indie Parity Clause for indie games which lowers also the xbox indie game library. So yeah the PS4 allready has more games than the xbox one and it will keep growing.

I hope not.

I agree with the general consensus in this thread; smaller games might go exclusive, but most AAA games will remain multiplat

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Japanese third party, for sure (namco, atlus, nippon-ichi, koei, and lot of others).

Occidental third party, i doubt so, they need to be on Pc and Xbox to sell enough.

I agree. Japanese games have higher chances to be PS4 exclusives. Western ones? Unlikely.
