This always comes up. Nintendo refuses to talk to the people running these things, the people score them low (mostly in an attempt to pressure Nintendo to talk).

More or less meaningless. The point is whether or not Nintendo is actually contracting with sweat shops in, say, China or the Philippines, which is not stated.

From what I understood about that it seems to me they were scoring companies purely on what policies they have in place for these things. I think I remember a few years ago the core Nintendo company was ranked very high for the actual wages paid to the average employee. It's bureaucracy vs. actuality.

Having said that, Nintendo do outsource a lot to manufacture their consoles, so it would be a good idea to have policies in place to prevent them contracting with bad companies (but even when policies like that are in place they are only useful if the appropriate checks are carried out)

This comes up every year. AFAIK the people who make the list rate companies badly that "dont cooperate" with them, i.e. who dont provide information to them.

I would love to advocate to eliminate slavery in the tech world. Going after policies doesn't change anything if there's no reinforcement, however (UN technically has no practical power beyond peer pressure), and there needs to be more practical alternatives and more concrete evidence beyond "their policies aren't clear, so they must be doing bad things." Money also speaks louder than words, so sadly we'll allow this to keep happening to save $50 on our video game systems, cell phones, and computers unless we take action.
