Tagged games:

Activision plans to unveil this year's Skylanders game later this month, according to an invite the publisher sent to Polygon recently.

The invitation, which was sent to our news editor, Brian Crecente, included a personalized video message featuring two of the opposing forces in the Skylanders universe: Eon and Kaos. You can watch the clip above. Activision will hold a media event in New York on April 23 to debut "the latest innovation from the franchise that created the toys-to-life category."

Three main Skylanders games have been released, including the franchise's debut: 2011's Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, 2012's Skylanders Giants and 2013's Skylanders Swap Force. The publisher said earlier this year that Novato, Calif.-based Toys for Bob will handle development on the 2014 title; Toys for Bob also made Spyro's Adventureand Giants. Activision's main competition in the genre is Disney's Disney Infinity; the latter company recently sent out an invitation for its own special event, this one related to Marvel Entertainment.

My daughter is excited.  And to be honest, I am also quite interested in what the innovation will be this year.

They have been really good about that so far, so my I doubt they will change it.  Heck, they even let you use some of the new figures in the old games (basically all of the reposed characters).

The only annoying thing that they have done is that the new series (reposed) characters get a special attack that is not available with the original characters.  Thankfully it isn't that much of a game changer, so I don't feel compelled to have to buy the characters all over again.
