Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Zelda U isn´t released next year, is Smash Bros probably the big game for Holiday 2014?

Well, tbf, while those sales are good, it was not what Nintendo expected. But AC can be their holiday 2014. I hope for Zelda.

You and me both, for many reasons. But I think Animal Crossing would be too soon, unless they learned nothing from Animal Crossing City Folk.

As far as I know Zelda doesn't do that well in Japan, so maybe they get Animal Crossing and the west get Zelda. :D

Sadly, I no longer believe them when they say "we definitely learned from (insert whatever here)"

Mario 3D World is this year´s big Wii U game for the Holidays, we all know that, as for next year...DKC comes out in February, Mario Kart sometime in the first semester if I´m not mistaken (am I?), as much as I´ll (probably) enjoy Bayonetta 2 and X, I don´t think they´re 'system sellers'.

...

Or perhaps something quite surprising, that we´ll know about at E3 2014?

You are not mistaken, Mario KArt 8 is spring 2014, but all points out to april as the release month.

Bayonetta could be August, X will launch in Japan this year, but not in America, Nintendo just takes too much time to translate.

Looks like Smash could the holiday big tittle, but with Nintendo you'll never know, they could have something in the works from sometime (was is Intelligent systems doing, what is Intelligent Systems doing?, what is Nintendo EAD group 4 doing?, what is Headstrong games doing?), and of course they can have some kind of collaboration with a third party like Sega, Namco or Capcom that brings something else to the table.

If Smash does not drop before holiday 2014, other than Zelda (which may also not drop in 2014), what heave hitters does the big N have slated for 2014 ? X ? com'on now. Wonderful 101 hardly sold and that was hyped by N faithful since introduced.
DKTF does not look like it will bring anything new to the series IMO,N faithful may also not flock to that either.
So it looks like N has no choice but to rush Zelda and Smash into 2014 to have any chance of going up against the other 2 consoles that have 3rd party support behind them.

Sad but true.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Nintendo needs to release something other than Wii U versions of 3DS games.

That could've been SSB4 but now that that's also coming to the 3DS...it'll still sell Wii U's but not as much as it would've if it was totally exclusive.

The new IP from Miyamoto is hopefully good and different enough to get the big Holiday 2014 spot. If not, Zelda will do. It will sell systems but certainly won't turn things around.

Yeah, I expect Smash will be the big holiday game for Nintendo next year. Mario Kart 8 and/or Mario 3D World may have decent legs, but they won't be the focus of Nintendo's lineup at that point.

For all the talk about how delays of 1st party Wii U games (like Pikmin 3) have hurt the Wii U, I would argue that the delay with the most impact on the Wii U is the delay of Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS. If Kid Icarus had been finished in time for the launch of the 3DS in early 2011 as was originally planned, Sakurai might have been able to finish Smash by this holiday. Having Smash AND Mario 3D World available this holiday might have given them a fighting chance against the launch of the X1 and PS4. As it stands now, Smash will be the lone system seller for the Wii U next Holiday, and Xbox and Playstation will have a much stronger software lineup next year than they had at launch.

I don't think so. I think they will try to take advantage of a lull in 4Bone content and release MarioKart in Spring and Smash in late spring early summer.

Zelda might be ready for Christmas 2014, but it's not a big deal if it's not. I can see them relying on a series of smaller games to hit up various demographics. X for rpg fans, B2 for action, Yarn Yoshi for platformers and something else yet to be revealed for casual fans - Animal Crossing U or some new IP like a Mario FPS. People buying the system won't need a new major game to come out because they obviously don't have Kart, 3DW or Smash yet. Nintendo could then bundle one of those titles like Kart to move systems.

I don't think they will wait for Christmas to release Smash.

I'm really hoping for MK8 in spring but I have a feeling it's going to be delayed. Nintendo needs something big for the holidays and if it isn't Mario Kart or Smash Bros, then I'm guessing something that's not yet been announced. Like Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion or a Mario Party released at the same time frame as Bayonetta or X.

They have Mario Kart 8 and Smash for 2014. Maybe Nintendo could rush Zelda for 2014 release but I think Nintendo wants to make sure that Smash and MK get their own time in the spotlight.
