This must be the number 100 thread about the same topic but I found this very interesting article from a very trusted site.

I find it extremely well written and it has some incredible predictions in it. It IS kinda old and I don't know if it was already posted but the date is of May 28 of this current year.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/the-wii-u-is-nintendo-s-dreamcast

I will try to make a summary about the article:

Basically the article makes a comparision with Nintendo's Wii U and Sega's Dreamcast by listing the similarities with nice and funny titles.

Nintega is the first title of the article and talks about the similairites of the Dreamcast controller and the Wii U gamepad. Citing that the two house a screen on the controller. It also talks that the sudden succes of the Wii made Nintendo too comfortable which takes us to the next title!

Merciless Mobile, he opens the next paragraphs with this title saying that Nintendo bet on the wrong gimmick. He proceeds to talk about how Microsoft has smartglass and Sony has phones and the PSP as rivals in the second screen gaming gimmick. He also talks about smartphones and tablets as a big threat to the Wii U gamepad. He also says that Mario and Zelda games won't save the console.

The next title is, So What?. Here we see some great predictions which I'll proceed to quote. "There is also widespread that no matter how succesful these machines (here he is talking about the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U) are the market for a Wii 3, Xbox Two or Playstation 5 will have dried up by 2020 - replaced by uber-powerful, Cloud-centric,100 percent mobile devices that wirelessly communicate with your TV, projector, watch, glasses and whatever technology thinks up."

The final title is Dream turned Nightmare and closes his article by saying that Nintendo is in the "agony of inescapable decline" by the hands of Microsoft, Sony, Apple, Google, Activision, EA and Rovio.

And with this I leave you to digest this excellent article!

There is also widespread talk that no matter how successful these machines are, the market for a Wii 3, Xbox Two or PlayStation 5 will have dried up by 2020 - replaced by uber-powerful, Cloud-centric, 100 per cent mobile devices that wirelessly communicate with your TV, projector, watch, glasses and whatever else technology thinks up.

This week everybody got angry, again. The launch of the Xbox One drew much scorn, with people complaining about everything from its appearance and internet requirements to its lack of backwards compatibility and overarching home cinema pretensions.

Sony similarly got it in the neck in February. The PS4’s approach was criticised for being old fashioned, limited in scope and Sony was mocked for not showing off the console itself.

How Nintendo must wish people cared this much to have a go at the Wii U.

Since it went on sale late last year Nintendo’s console has been all but dismissed by consumers and video game makers. Multiple price cuts have failed to boost flagging sales and major publishers have even refused to categorise it as a next generation console. Most recently industry whale Electronic Arts admitted it will only develop a limited number of titles for the U, saying there isn’t enough power to run its next generation Frostbite 3 game engine.

I hope to god that you're not serious.

Their pretty similar alright but the only difference is sega didn't have strong enough franchises to support the dreamcast.

The Wii U and the Dreamcast do share some similarities, mostly the fact they both have fantastic games that don't get enough love :(

Sega didn't have the money to winter a down year. Nintendo can easily deal with the Wii U being another GameCube. In fact, it would probably be best if people got used to GameCube type console sales being standard. Nintendo would probably be fine with having a niche system, as their fans would still buy tons of Mario software.

For some reason I thought this thread is about hypothetical merger of Nintendo and SEGA...oh, well, carry on...

That's what I was thinking (and hoping) as well. On that though, after Sega and Nintendo join forces they should get Capcom on board, also absorb and expand Shin'en Multimedia.

OT: Not impressed by the article, too much opinion based reasoning, not enough facts.
