Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: Michel Ancel to leave Ubisoft

Tagged games:

I'm usually loath to post rumors, but this one is especially interesting to me.

I guess Gamekult is reporting that Michel Ancel will soon leave Ubisoft, and may take many of the Rayman development team with him.

Ubisoft has since denied the rumor.

Gamekult also reports that the Rayman delay was due to a disagreement between Ubisoft and Nintendo about distribution and marketing.

If true, we might never see Beyond Good & Evil 2 :(

If that's true, I'm curious as to where he will end up. Like I've said in another thread, he could make the Western version of Platinum games.

Love and tolerate.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ubisoft said to Nintendo, hey, Rayman being an exclusive benefits you a lot more than it does us, so we'd like you to subsidize some of the advertising.

I honestly thought the same thing, that Nintendo was paying some extra for this.

Is it really a disagreement by Ninteno and Ubisoft though? Or just Ubisoft?

He's the one behind BG&E, and if he leaves, the game may get cancelled.

As far as I know, Ubisoft owns that property. And I imagine the company wouldn't push forward with a sequel without Ancel, who gave life to the game.

That's just my thinking.

I am a bit two sided on this one.
In one end I might never see a new 3D Rayman if this is true.
On the other end Ancel might do some good stuff as well and I can see why he would quit. It's a bit sad that it could happen, since Ancel has been with Ubisoft in over 20 years.

WOW, Ubisoft's mistake of delaying Rayman could prove far more costly to them than we imagined..

I assume this means BG&E2 is officially dead at this point. That series is/was his baby.

Rayman will be fine without him, as long as they keep with their new focus of keeping it as a classic 2D platformer like the 1995 original.

I just hope he keeps making console games with his new company, or if he's snatched up by another publisher. I'm surprised Ubi is letting him go so easily if this is true. You'd think Yves Guillemot would be offering him whatever he could to keep him happy and keep him on board. Oh well.
