Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Grezzo working on a new Four Swords game?

Grezzo's last two projects were Ocarina of Time 3D and Four Swords Anniversary Edition for DSiWare. I'll cut to the chase: I think Nintendo held their hand through the Four Swords revamp to prepare Grezzo for a slightly larger project -- designing an original, full game in the style of Four Swords. They designed a few brand-new levels for Anniversary Edition, almost like a practice run. The official timeline revealed in Hyrule Historia also clearly describes the events of a not-yet-existent Four Swords game between Minish Cap and Four Swords.

Care to share your thoughts? If this is the case, do you think the game would be full retail or digital? DS, 3DS, DSiWare, eShop? Maybe even a console game more along the lines of Four Swords Adventures?

No more 2D Zelda for me, thank you.

Well, putting it the way you do I'm inclined to agree :D sounds like they might be working on something like that!! But I'm hoping for something more aching to A Link to the Past! I know Miyamoto have expressed interest in remaking that very game, so a new entry in the same style would seem appropriate. It would also leave the "Zelda-team" free to make a console Zelda (if Retro isn't working on that)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

What in hyrule historia makes it clear that it's a four swords game?

My other doubt is, wasn't there a four sword in the GBA remake of LttP? Couldn't it be that game? Did that one actually have a story? (Never played it)

Wasn't that game Four Sword Adventures for GC?

FSA is at the end of the child timeline, after Twilight Princess (for some reason)

Majora's Mask 3D would be really nice. They already have a lot of assets they could reuse from Ocarina of Time 3D.

There are actually two designated Zelda teams, one for home consoles and one for handheld consoles. Grezzo is an outside party to those two teams. It is likely that whatever Grezzo is doing right now, there are two Zelda games currently in development within Nintendo EAD, so using Grezzo to make a smaller game wouldn't be tying up Nintendo's Zelda teams.

There seems to be some confusion here, only natural since the Zelda timeline is so ridiculous. The first Four Swords game was a bonus game in the 2002 GBA LttP remake developed by Capcom. It has a very simple story about a sorcerer named Vaati who kidnaps Zelda and a magic sword that splits Link into up to four people for multiplayer purposes. As often happens in Zelda games, the backstory of Four Swords describes a legend of a similar event happening in the past -- Vaati appeared, started kidnapping maidens (a favorite past-time of Zelda villains), a hero used the Four Sword to defeat Vaati. Four Swords Adventures for GameCube was a sequel to this game. The Minish Cap was a prequel showing Vaati's rise to power and first defeat, but the events of Minish Cap did not line up with the legend described in Four Swords.

Hyrule Historia lays out the entire timeline of the Zelda series, and once again describes the legend from the beginning of Four Swords, confirming that it is not a "misinterpretation" of the events of The Minish Cap:

(from GlitterBerri's translation)
Peace returned briefly to Hyrule as Vaati was presumed killed, until he one day reappeared to terrorize the land once more. Vaati kidnapped many beautiful maidens and brought them to the Wind Palace in the sky that he had taken.

At this moment, a hero wielding the legendary sword appeared. Using the sword, he split his body in four to defeat Vaati and seal him away inside the Four Sword in the Four Sword Sanctuary.

Unlike the prologues of The Wind Waker or Skyward Sword, in which no hero appeared, or of The Minish Cap, in which no antagonist was described, these events seem to perfectly line up with a hypothetical Four Swords game that never was.

I hope its a new 2D zelda game, hope its not a four swords remake, too early for that imo.

The Four Swords remake was made last year as part of Zelda's anniversary celebrations. I'm talking about a completely new game, a prequel to Four Swords, not a remake.

Grezzo never developed original zelda games, only remakes. So idk if Nintendo is rdy to let them le theyr mark on the LoZ canon lore... I guess not, and if they are working on a zelda game it's a remake. MM maybe. But you have good arguments.

If you are right, my guess would be a remake of GC's Four Sword Adventure for Wii U's eshop. Back in the days, we had to play on our GBA, when we went underground, the action shifted on our GBA as our second screen (that concept sounds familiar?). That game would be perfect for the gamepad, and theyr is no better way to kick off the Wii U's eshop with bang than with a LoZ game. + they could add online coop. The only flaw in this is the lack of multiple gamepads, and I doubt they would take away the local multiplayer, but maybe we can conect out 3DSs to the Wii U and play in a similar was as we did with our GBAs. But all these arguments are also valid for a original Four Sword game if Nintendo are supervising to make sure the story and gameplay are adequate, so that is also a possibility.

So, my guess are either a 3DS MM remake, FSA remake for Wii U's eshop or a original FS game also for Wii U's eshop.
