God of War III: Sell-in 5.20 million, sell-through 4.49 million (including the Trilogy Edition)? After over 2 years the difference between shipped & sold would be tiny, no more than 50K especially during the slow month of May. The game is blatantly heavily under-tracked so why was it adjusted back down? Was it an honest mistake? I don't understand why this site would adjust it up to a more accurate sales estimation one week then bring it back down to a proven to be massively wrong amount the next? It was adjusted up to 4.95 million and has sold >20K since meaning it should now be at 4.97 million, why is it taking so long to correct?

God of War III, God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War Collection have been adjusted back to their pre-adjusted numbers when we know God of War III was hugely under-tracked and the other two were slightly over-tracked due to them being available digitally and Vgchartz can't/doesn't track digital sales. I'm assuming that these games reverting back to the pre-adjusted figures was an error on Vgchartz's behalf so I thought I'd make this thread to bring it to the staff's attention.

Sales as of May 19th, 2012:

 Sales as of May 26th, 2012:  (Huge adjustments but still not accurate enough, after over 2 years God of War III wouldn't have 250K units sitting on shelves and God of War & God of War II are no longer being shipped or sold new so they must have sold through all (or 99.99%) of their shipments.

Sales as of the 2nd June, 2012:  (Games in bold are back at pre-adjusted figures, GoW3 added 10k last week which explains the small difference).

Sales as of May 4th, 2013.  (Bolded games are new releases since Sony's official God of War numbers were released).

So after almost a year and with the releases of God of War: Ascension, God of War Saga and the God of War Omega Edition (Not acknowledged by Vgchartz and it includes the God of War Collection, God of War: Origins Collection & God of War III) it still hasn't sold through the 21.65m it shipped by May 30th, 2012? Come on, it's plain to see GoW 1, 2 & especially GoW3 need adjusting.

God of War III should be  ~5.28m by now (was 700K under Sony's shipped numbers on June 2nd 2012 and the difference between shipped & sold would be around ~50K, it sold ~180K since then according to Vgchartz) so taking into account that with the Trilogy Edition it's currently at 4.68m (May 4th, 2013) that means GoW III is under-tracked by at least 600K. Considering the game was ~15% under-tracked by Vgchartz by May 30th 2012 it's reasonable to assume it's still being under-tracked by a similar percentage since then so ~180K is really closer to ~207K, that means it's probably closer to around 630K under-tracked).

Also GoW should be at 4.62m and GoW II should be at 4.25m as they aren't being sold new anymore which means they must have sold-through all (or 99.9%) of the units that were shipped to retailers.

Bump! - 10th September, 2013.

I'm only bumping because I'm convinced God of War III has passed the 6 million milestone (A first for a hack 'n slash game and it's unlikely to ever be surpassed in the genre, unless God of War IV is a return to form and then some with a good amount of bundling and an amazing marketing campaign, hopefully a holidays release too, all that happens then it'll have a chance) and it hasn't been adjusted yet, now seems like a good time to make a fuss since we've recently had big adjustments on the site.

God of War Saga Collection + God of War III + Trilogy Edition = (5.93m - 5.96m, I added 15% to the ~60K GoW3 + Saga sold since May 4th 2013, read above for explanation for the estimates, also added 15% to the total sales of the Trilogy Edition)... I'll stick with a mean average of those two figures for a 5.95m estimate, however...

That's not including the Latin America exclusive God of War: Omega Edition which has sold at the absolute minimum of 49,978 (see image below). http://www.yassuke.com/unboxingdeballage-god-of-war-omega-collection/. It's a limited collectors edition so there was probably 50K-100K shipped lifetime, again mean average is 75K so lets use that figure.

Adding up all SKUs God of War III has 100% passed 6 million units sold. Including the Trilogy, Saga & Omega Collections God of War III has sold about 6.05m to date. The lowest I think it could be at is 6.03m and the highest is 6.06m.

Individual SKUs:

God of War III ~5,350,000 | God of War Trilogy ~130,000 | God of War Saga ~500,000 | God of War Omega ~70,000

God of War III - The first hack 'n slash to ever pass 6 million units sold! Amazing for a game with only a miniscule amount of bundling at launch and nothing at all after a few weeks, no multiplayer or DLC to help keep it from being traded in and really poor marketing outside of the US.

So when will God of War III be adjusted? GT5 got adjusted pretty quickly so I don't see why that can't be the same case here when I've proven it is massively under-tracked. And I know Vgchartz doesn't track Latin America yet but with the picture proof above you could add the God of War Omega Collection to the database and under 'Rest of World' enter the minimum figure of 49,978, no? Just a thought.

LOL I guess VGCHARTZ can't make up their mind after those official numbers came out showing how undertracked they are here.

i'm not sure i fully follow what you said but...

we don't track digital.  vgc adjusted halo 3 and i think alan wake to not include digital sales.  ergo we shouldn't here either to be consistant.  when sony or whoever gives numbers they often give a combined number meaning vgc numbers will look undertracked for games availible digitally also. 

so in short, as ps360 have started to get into digital, vita has fully embraced digital, and soon wii U, ps4, xboxNext will follow suit ... vgc's numbers will quickly go from sketchy to irrelevant. 

Is there even a digital version of God of War 3?

Is anyone else suffering from Deja vu after reading this thread? It feels like there have been multiple threads on this subject, some of which were quite recent. Anyways, Sony numbers> Vgchartz numbers unless those numbers are shipped.

i think so, i don't know for sure but most sony first party is.  didn't they launch GoW 3 along side GoW 1 and 2 and chains of olympus and ghost of sparta?

God of War 3 is not available for download on PSN.

I'm sure it was just a simple error. Hopefully they get fixed to be inline with the shipped numbers again.
