Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My 1999 Pokemon Yellow savegame is gone... :(

Tagged games:

Sad days... after reading this: http://xbigygames.com/save-your-pokemon-game-files-before-its-too-late/ which explains that around now the battery will die in your original Pokemon cartridges after all these year, I checked my Pokemon Yellow Gameboy cartridge and it was too late... -_-"

Are your Pokemon savegames still save?

I think the Gold and Silver cartridges died a few years ago. Already know my Gold game is dead and pretty sure Silver will be by now. Don't want to check on the others, rather believe they are still there. When Gold died I make a list of my 6 squad Pokemon on Blue and all their details so it could save as a reminder/memorial of sort. Reading this kinda glad I did it.

Despite nostalgia, I'm unlikely to ever pick them up again seeing as I have the DS version and haven't finished either HeartGold or White.

EDIT: In a few years time, will we be having to worry about this with Ruby and Sapphire and then all the DS games. I read somewhere the DS games' internal batteries work in a way that when they run out the save files remain but time-based events don't occur. Have I got that right?

I recently checked all mine (within the last few weeks), and the only one that has died is Gold, which died a few years back. The rest are working (including my 1998 Blue Version), and I actually just played through Yellow again (and am in the process of beating Crystal). I won't bother changing the battery though. When they finally die, I'll just use an emulator. I have all of the important details saved on my computer (teams, pokemon caught, etc), but I never really go back and play the ones that I beat and never restarted.

Edit: @SecondWar: I can't comment on the DS games, but I've had my Ruby version since it first came out, and every time I start it up, it tells me I won't get any time based events anymore. It is the original save file too.

I have already replaced Red. Everything was OK last time I checked.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

My Silver 333 hours savegame got erased years ago....
Since that time I never cared much about Pokemon.

mine is perfectly fine

My Blue version died a few years ago. Gold, Ruby and FireRed still works though.

My yellow still saves, but my gold and crystal don't. You should be able to replace the battery though.
