Forums - Gaming Discussion - Another Thread on Epic Adventures and Disney Magic (First Screenshots/Info!)

Tagged games:

It's almost been 2 years since the release of Warren Spector and Junciton Point's Disney Epic Mickey. Since then, the game has been Disney's best selling single-platform game of all time... so it was inevitable that we'd see a sequel, right? Surely we'd get to see Mickey Mouse shine again, right?

Right.

The hype began last year in August, when a Disney online survey asked its participants which Epic Mickey 2 boxart they liked the best:

It all went quiet from that moment on, but the hype train went full steam ahead when Nintendo Power teased this image in last month's issue.

Rabbids? As if, those are definitely Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's ears!

Then GTTV announced that it would be revealing Warren Spector's next project Thursday night (that's tomorrow night). Here's the teaser:

Yes... I wonder what it could be...

Guys. It's time to go back to the world of Disney Magic and Epic Adventures. It's time for Epic Mickey 2!

So here's what we know:

  • It's going to be a multi-console game. Most likely coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
  • The development team contains around 700 people.

And here's some rumors:

  • A seperate 3DS Micky game is being developed called "Power of Illusion" (a nod to Castle of Illusion?). Would have a more 2D approach compared to the console versions.
  • The game is coming to the Wii U as well as the Wii/PS3/X360. There have been other rumors that say the Wii version would be enhanced if you play it on the Wii U.

All Aboard the Hype Train!

I am tempted to put some barrels with dynamite on the rails.

Come on Rol, the least you could do is derail the hype train in the spirit of this thread.

Use paint thinner instead.

And it's been confirmed!

Epic Mickey: The Power of Two

Can't wait!

Yay!

I always thought that color isn't a good fit for a Disney game.

What color? You mean how colorful the game is?

Also I'm adding you to the hype train. Yep.

I was willing to give this game a fair chance, but based on the first three screenshots I can already say that I don't like it.

Take a look at your picture of the hype train. That one has color, the screenshots haven't.

From what I'm seeing here, the first picture looks like it's part of Mickey's Toon Town. The second picture looks like a transition stage (with a Mirror instead of a projector screen), and the final picture shows that the blotlings are back, and they're definitely doing their part to destroy the colorful world of Wasteland again.

Also, have you been to Disneyland Paris? And if you haven't, do you ever plan to go?

Are the 2D sections still horrible? At least it has coop.

The first picture should have color, but it's not there. Wasteland never had a colorful world. It was like some people decided that they want to make a mature Mickey game and concluded that adults do not appreciate colors. By the looks of it, the second game won't be any different.

I have been in Eurodisney. It wasn't gray, brown and washed out.

That was kind of the point to the original Epic Mickey. Mickey's spilling of the paint thinner in Wasteland created a world that was "grey, brown, and washed out", but the point was that the true world was a bright, beautiful, and colorful world. Still, you can't deny the fantastic usage of color in the original game (especially in the numerous transition stages. Pluto's Dream comes to mind.). I don't doubt that The Power of Two will be the same.

Kind of reminds me of Skyward Sword's Lanayru Desert, especially visiting the sand sea... that part made me sad as I could sea the beauty of the ocean transformed into a vast desert.

Also... the game is pretty much a lock on for Wii U!

Epic Mickey: The Power of Two will surely be made available for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. However, it seems that Junction Point Studios is also bringing the game to next-gen systems.

When asked which platforms Epic Mickey 2 is being made for, GTTV’s Geoff Keighley said, “It’s on next gen too!”

I'm so happy!

This information comes from Walt Disney Co. archive director Becky Cline…

“I couldn’t be more pleased. Once you give a character a voice, it takes it to a whole new level. I can’t wait for the public to see it and embrace Oswald the way that we have over the years in the archive.”

This information comes from Junction Point’s Warren Spector…

“I’m such a geek about musicals,. I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it’s magic.”

“It’s drop-in, drop-out co-op. You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald. If you’re playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He’s not just a multiplayer character. He’s a helper, whether you’re playing alone or with a friend or family member.”

“We couldn’t ask people to care about this guy (Oswald) they’ve never heard of or no one has ever seen since 1928 in a Disney film. It was unrealistic to expect people to care in the first game, but now we know they care. We hear about it from players all the time. They really, really got into Oswald, which is hugely gratifying. ”

“We’ve had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game. They’ll be working on it until the day we ship the second game. (There have been) over 1,000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game.”

“There’s always been one part of the (Disney) parks that I’ve always wanted to get into Wasteland. Frontierland has changed so much since it started. There’s so much forgotten history there, so Frontierland is going to get a pretty good exploration this time around, plus some other places that we’ll keep secret for now.”

Other new developments for this now-official game include full voice acting, including the first voice work for Oswald in Disney history. That voice acting will be used to make the game a for-real musical. "I'm such a geek about musicals," Junction Point studio head Warren Spector told the AP. "I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

Now, I'm not one to judge a game based on three screenshots and a single interview, but that...

I'll just wait for the E3 trailer.

I didn't actually think that the camera (one of the things they're supposedly fixing) was that bad in the first game. What I did mind was that, when all was said and done, play-style really didn't matter nearly as much as Mr. Spector claimed it would.

And I've been to Disneyland Paris. *gloat*

No 3DS love yet from him?

Nice. I've always wanted to go there, just to ride their Haunted Mansion. I have the book on the ride (it's my favorite ride ever. Love it!), and I know how different it is compared to Disneyland/Disney World. The Western theme sounds pretty neat.

Also, I just noticed the musical part. I'm really intrigued. XD
