So in the October issue of Game Informer, the crew sits down with legendary Zelda developer Eiji Aonuma. The majority of the interview was talking about Skyward Sword but Game Informer decided to ask the questions everyone has been wondering for ages. What about LOZ:WiiU and LOZ:3DS?
Aonuma had the typical Nintendo line when talking about Zelda WiiU. Saying "The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like. We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before.... One of our goals with [Skyward Sword] is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve." In other words the Zelda game on WiiU will be likely evolved compared to what we saw in the trailer. Nintendo likes to always utilize its assets and do things that couldn't be done on past platforms. I wonder what this means for Zelda:WiiU.
But more interesting then Aonuma's comments regarding WiiU is his comments about an original Zelda adventure for 3DS. Rather then qoute each individual statement I will quote the whole part of the Game Informer article. "Next I asked Aonuma whether Nintendo has started considering an original Zelda game for the 3DS to follow-up the Ocarina of Time 3D remake. Aonuma said that he expects to be able to do something "very interesting" on the system. He gave me one highly suggestive hint, leading me to believe that the team is further along than just thinking about the new title: "It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."
Now of course Aonuma never confirmed LoZ:3DS was in development but his hints suggest it likely is.
So what are your thoughts, also the most interesting thing I take from this article is the confirmation that 3D will not be dropped from 3DS as many are predicting. Aonuma specifically says "It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something." If Nintendo intended to drop 3D I don't think Aonuma would be talking about how the next Zelda title will utilize 3D. A new Zelda title if 3D were being dropped would likely be released for that platform and not 3DS.
So the big news is, LoZ:3DS may already be in development, 3D is here to stay and LoZ:WiiU won't likely look exactly like what was shown at E3!
