I didn't think it was any less scary than say Prime 1 or Dread, personally. Not quite as overtly horror at times as say Prime 2/3, but there was plenty of moments where it felt foreboding like the ice base and the mines.

I miss Ridley. He helped push Metroid into horror territory.
