It’d probably feel similar to how Inklings play in Smash Bros which is actually what got me hooked on the idea of a 2.5D Splatoon side-scroller. Another cool direction would be a Borderlands-style RPG shooter with a much deeper story than the usual single-player DLCs. 

But like I said I'll pick it up eventually(sooner if word of mouth is good) and hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by it.

FWIW I personally like it a lot and the game play loop is addicting. 

I strongly recommend the game, but as always it’s very subjective with what you like.
