Would you guys be more or less hyped if this is true? Personally, I'd probably skip the game if that was the case. I've played Ocarina of Time dozens of times and the gameplay has definitely aged, unlike that of Star Fox 64. I wouldn't wanna go through the same dungeons again, solve the same puzzles again, etc... Star Fox is an arcade game so it's supposed to be replayed but dungeon puzzles always have the exact same solution and get boring after multiple playthroughs. |
I think the "Updated Designs" suggests it would be more than 1:1. Some people think that means visual designs but updated visual designs comes with the territory of remaking an N64 game. I don't think they'd highlight it after already highlighting the stunning visuals.
"The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay," To me the gameplay is the core mechanics, the designs is how the world is fleshed out and gameplay mechanics refined.
But lets say it is 1:1... (1440p60 does imply a similar scope, versus open world)
I haven't played through Ocarina fully for probably 15years or so (last time on Wii). There's plenty that I think would feel new enough with a modern visual interpretation and its my favourite game of all time so I would get it for sure. Gameplay wise I don't think it's aged badly outside from Hyrule field which is just a bit empty. Core combat works although rather simple, puzzles and mechanics are satisfying and 70% are not actively stored in my mind. I'd play through it just to see how the world was reinterpreted, story retold and how the tone is delivered with all of this + modern orchestra and cinematic standards.
Personally I'm hoping for a "reimagining" but not in the sense that they reconfigure the gameplay from scratch but that they flesh out the world and take the core of the original and polish it in whatever way makes sense by modern standards. I'd expect dungeons to be modestly remixed where ever there is room to elaborate on design (particular vertically now there is full camera control), less box pushing. I'd expect hyrule field to be giving more content and purpose. Enemies appearing where you didn't expect them. Utimately the gameplay feel is OOT but modernised with new camera controls, animations and and additional input regarding items/weapons (i.e bomb throwing with give players more control)
