I'd much prefer rasterised lighting on this, even on most PS5 games tbh. The Switch games that push RT still do not look as clean and polished as PS4s best looking games like Uncharted 4, TLOU2, FFVIIR, Ghost of Tsushima, GOW.
There's a very specific noisy and unstable look and feel of games pushing beyond the Hardwares native capacity. Whether it be crazy pop in, unstable shadows, poor image quality, low res FX etc...
I want an internal resolution (DLSS) no lower than 720p. Most of these RT games are coming from 540p and lower.
Even in Sony's recent GOW reveal. No sign of RT and that's the game looks super polished with really top level VFX, hair simulation etc |
Thing is, it's not just RT that makes say Indiana Jones or Star Wars Outlaws have visible cutbacks, but more also that every aspect of them was developed for hardware much more powerful. We haven't actually seen what a game with RT built from the ground up for Switch 2 could look like. |
Yeah, I wouldn't rule it out the team being able to balance it but given the associated cost I do want that to be one of the last things on the list. RTGI is the only RT that I think makes an immediate and valuable enough impact IMO and that is quite costly.
