I don't think it makes sense to reference patterns from a very different era. Every PS6 game will be cross gen. That did not apply to PS3/PS4. In 2027 for example there wouldn't be a scenario where GT8 launches lets say in December, but then doesn't have a PS6 patch which allows more complete performance.

For example did Sony release any PS4 exclusives after 2020? I don't think so, everything came to PS5 as well.

Do I think they would "hold" a cross gen game for 6months to align with a launch? Nope. That's why I think Intergalatic is not a launch title. Would they hold a game for 2-3months? Sure, depending on what else is happening around that window.

I don't think they would hold a Naughty Dog, Santa Monica or Polyphony Digital game even 2-3 months to align with  anything.

I do agree they will have PS6 versions, but I don't think they would mandate a PS6 simultaneous release or holding the game otherwise. You can reference the year the PS5 released then. Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 where not delayed to have a PS5 version on release either. I really don't think Sony would make a big studio hold a game release to have a crossgen version, at all.

Yes, but these were games that were launched completely separate from the PS5 launch window, not 2months before. As I said I wouldn't expect Intergalactic to be "held" for 6months, especially as it's already been marketed as PS5 game. But games yet to be announced, which haven't already missed their release targets (like TLOU2 did), that are lining up close to the launch of a new platform would probably have gears shifted to accommodate the new platform and orientate around said launch in the modern era.

The game would not literally be "held" as the team would just be working to a slightly adjusted target which would mean slightly less crunch or more time to polish, or the opposite.

Release dates are strategic targets, it's why you never see Sony launch a big game in January or December. They never want to "target" those months for marketing reasons. So if a game looked like it would go gold roughly around November, Sonys job as a publisher would be to set the appropriate release date from there. They wouldn't just say well if its gold in November then we must launch in January. They'd set a February release date and the team will work towards that. That's why delays are so common, because the strategic target may not actually align with the reality of development.

Fundamentally though the discussion should whether you think GT8/santa monica games may align with the PS6 launch which is why I suggested them as launch titles, not whether Sony will "hold" them til launch.
