There is no way Sony holds GT8 to a launch windown, it'll release when it does, GT6 released 1 month after the PS4, as a PS3 exclusive, PD does what it wants. I also doubt a Santa Monica game will be held for a launch windown and not release exactly when it should, Sony wouldn't hold their second biggest studio over a system launch, they never did, and likely never will. GoW Ascension and TLoU also released as PS3 exclusives in the year the PS4 released. Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Polyphony Digital are studios I think will never have launch games, that's not how they roll, and Sony mostly doesn't care about holding massive games for the launch. After Guerilla Games became one of their highest budgeted studios with Horizon, I also find it hard to believe they would have a launch game, even as when they did once, with Killzone Shadowfall for the PS4. Team Asobi and Insomniac having games for the launch are way likely. I think Bend, Media Molecule and Sucker Punch are possible candidates, and as I expect the PS6 to release November 2028, Sucker Punch would have time for a game to be there, if they were already working on it by the end of Ghost of Yotei cycle. |
I don't think it makes sense to reference patterns from a very different era. Every PS6 game will be cross gen. That did not apply to PS3/PS4. In 2027 for example there wouldn't be a scenario where GT8 launches lets say in December, but then doesn't have a PS6 patch which allows more complete performance.
For example did Sony release any PS4 exclusives after 2020? I don't think so, everything came to PS5 as well.
Do I think they would "hold" a cross gen game for 6months to align with a launch? Nope. That's why I think Intergalatic is not a launch title. Would they hold a game for 2-3months? Sure, depending on what else is happening around that window.
