I don't think there is a big difference between digital sales ratio of PS/Switch 2 games in Japan. Pokopia had like a 50 % digital ratio at launch in Japan. At most the usual Switch 2 single player game has a 20-30 % digital ratio at launch while the usual single player PS5 game may have a 30-40 % digital ratio. What often matters more is how good retail stock supply is, lower retail stock like Pokopia had will push the digital ratio up enormously in Japan. Even during the Switch 1 era games like Xenoblade 3 had around 50 % or higher digital ratio in Japan looking at the CESA white paper sales info we got of its sales in Japan. So any digital advantage PS games have is likely not that high, when even some Nintendo games have a 40-50 % digital ratio according to CESA white paper sales info.

"conventional thinking has always been that the digital ratio is significantly lower in Japan than in the West. While the digital ratio is indeed lower in Japan on average, we are at a point where plenty of games have an over 50% ratio. Granted that doesn't necessarily increase the total amount sold by much. But the overall point is that digital is on the rise in Japan"

This was Daniel Ahmed back in 2024 talking about  PS5 software.

Pokopia's digital ratio was reported as a new "record" for Nintendo (I think in the UK) and driven by shortages. Based off all other markets PS5 digital ratio is notably bigger than Switch 2, In Japan It may be smaller but I'd still settle on 20% difference minimum and generally I'd expect it to be higher tbh. Now it will climb eve higher now that 80% of systems being sold are digital only. That sort of thing does make a difference. Both to RE9s launch numbers but also the week to week differences we're seeing. PS5 is way ahead, the important thing is that the S2 numbers are consistent which ultimately could lead to it be a 100k+ seller over the years and alludes to new people checking out the franchise.
