Switch Lite vs Switch 2 also needs to be put in context; the Lite is a machine near the end of it's life while Switch 2 just came out and is backwards compatible, so while much of the library may be shared now just as PS5's was with PS4 when it was new, (albeit with massively improved performance on the successor) it won't remain that way; Switch Lite will not get the next mainline Mario, mainline Zelda, the next Animal Crossing, Splatoon, probably not the next generation of Pokémon, etc, so Switch 2 offers a lot more value going forwards as a system that's likely going to be supported for the next 7-8 years or so.

Switch Lite will be around for years... The DRAM and NAND crunch will decimate component prices once contracts need to be renegotiated, the lite will be Nintendo's backup plan to keep shifting hardware.
That and the era of abandoning a console platform as soon as it's successor releases is no longer a thing... Especially when that platform is at 155~ million hardware units, that's a very big mass-appeal.
The Lite is with us for years to come.

I always felt the PC handhelds were disappointing for the price. A lot of that has to do with FSR being crap.
Having said that the next round of PC handhelds, like the Deck 2, will likely tromp the S2 in performance. The cpu/gpu will be massively upgraded and FSR4 will be supported, which is as good, if not better than DLSS lite.
All that said, still not trading my S2 in for anything because of the exclusive software.
All this is pretty simple and obvious IMHO.
Nintendo did as expected with the S2. Sacrificed power for price and landed between a ps4 and ps4 pro. Which is a huge upgrade over the S1 and ps4 like games still look/play great.
|
I am also not giving up my Switch 2... Because exclusive software. The argument was never about giving up anything.
As for FSR... We can use optiscaler to get FSR4 on PC handhelds.

And [insert best PC specs you can come up with today] can play [insert game] better than the PS5 Pro. Those comparisons between devices in far different price ranges make no sense. Yes, Pokémon Z-A looks and plays better on the Switch 2 than on the Switch Lite, but no one is debating that or using it against the Switch Lite.

Except that's literally my argument.
But then we have people who make stupid proclamations that "PC Handhelds are shit" based purely on price, based purely on form factor, when there are literally other devices that are cheaper, sleeker than their device of choice... It's literally making their argument factually stupid to start with.
And that's my point. We can literally shift the goal post anywhere to make any device the "Best option" or "Worst option" based on any number of factors, if people have somehow missed that point I am making... Well. Shit happens... And that is the second point I am making, to make a mockery of their silly argument.
TheRealSamusAran said:
And again, this is just "PC is better than PS5". Why are you having that discussion, in the year of our lord, 2026?

You are missing the point I am making.

Sorry, but when the price is more than twice more expensive, then the majority of people will look elsewhere.
|
And again, the Switch 2 is twice as expensive as the Switch Lite.
This is your argument, not mine, I have simply shifted it.
I never made the price argument. I am merely pointing out a flaw in peoples arguments who use the Switch 2's price as a pure argument over PC. You are arguing with the wrong person here.
Remember the Switch Lite is half the price of the Switch 2.
Also remember the PC hits every price point... PC gaming is also bigger than the Switch+Switch 2 platforms combined.
ConciousMan said:
Switch Lite cannot play Switch 2 games, while Switch 2 can play almost all Switch games.

Not entirely accurate. There are Switch 2 games on the Switch Lite.
For example... I can drop in the Switch 2 cartridge of: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4 and many more games into a Switch lite and play those carts just fine.
The Switch 1 has over 11,000+ games. The Switch 2 has about 350~ games.
Guess which has the bigger library?
If Library is the argument, then Switch 1 definitely dominates the Switch 2, it's sheer breadth of some of most amazing, genre defining releases is hard to ignore.
ConciousMan said:
Size matters too, the handheld shouldn't be too heavy and bulky. Switch 2 is almost too heavy already, let's not talk about those PC handhelds.
|
If size is the argument... Again. Switch lite wins over almost everything. It's small, mobile and has decent battery life relative to the Switch 2 and even many PC handhelds. (There are PC handhelds that are smaller than the Switch 2, PC isn't a one-size-fits-all platform you know.)

In addition, theirs softwares are not optimized. So what hardware is a lot more powerful if software optimization is not on par with what Nintendo or Sony can offer.
|
This argument is stupid, old and outdated.
Many games release on console in a poor state and are NOT optimized.
For example... Pokemon Violet and Scarlet. Absolutely abhorrent optimization on those games, it was just a broken release and NEVER FIXED.
ARK is another game that was poorly optimized on Switch. It was improved later on... But on release if that is what you would call "console optimization" then you can keep it, I would rather use a Nintendo 64 on a CRT and smother it with Vaseline to blur the image some more.
And it happens on other consoles as well, it's not a Nintendo issue... It's a developer issue and even Nintendo games can release in a poorly optimized state. See: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on Switch with it's sub 30fps frame rates.
....And PC -does- get optimizations, nVidia, AMD and Intel constantly release driver updates that increase performance, developers also release patches for their games that increase performance, Microsoft will also release OS updates that.,... You guessed it. Increase performance.
Optimization doesn't exist only on consoles and only in a vacuum all computing platforms get "optimizations" to one extent or another.
Some PC games also run better even on equivalent console hardware.

I would prefer a gaming tablaet than a bulky handheld that's not twice as fast in gaming than Switch 2 for double the price.

I personally need the tactile feedback of physical controls, I cannot game on my phone or tablet touch panel, just doesn't do it for me... And it always impresses me when someone is extremely proficient at it.
Yes I know you can get physical controls... But that's just something else I need to worry about.
I have my Switch OLED for that amazing display for Nintendo games... The Switch 2 which never leaves the dock (Because it's got the worst display of any handheld in over a decade) and my PC handheld for my 30+ years of games I have collected.
They all have Pro's and Con's. Just some of the "Pro's" and "Con's" that people list: I.E. Price, form factor are stupid and can legitimately be applied to other devices.
And that's the point I am making here.
It's okay to opt for a Switch 2 over a PC handheld, but you cant use "Price" as the -only- reason to chose the Switch 2 over a PC handheld, because there are cheaper handhelds than the Switch 2.

Yeah I agree, the Switch 2 is at the very upper max of what a portable can weigh IMO, it's even maybe a bit much. Any heavier than that is just not workable for something that's supposed to be portable easily. Honestly at the weight it is it almost doesn't feel like a Nintendo device anymore.
|
This is actually why I still have my New 3DS XL, ignoring the fact that the 3DS IPS panel has less ghosting/blur than the Switch 2 display, it's just a more pocket-able device to take on the plane.
Device size and weight is actually an important factor for myself... I am already carrying: 1) Gaming Laptop. 2) Samsung Galaxy Tablet. 3) Samsung Galaxy Ultra Phone. 4) Meta Ray Ban A.I. Glasses and charging case. 5) VHF Radio. 6) Keys for every lock, door and gate in my region. 7) Emergency Pager. 8) Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. 9) Battery Bank. 10) Water Bottle. 11) Kindle full of fire/rescue training documentation.
Throw in a Switch OLED or Switch 2 or handheld PC and I am pushing it. (Although I love the OLED)
