Same here. Watched this one a little over a week ago at IMAX. It looks great, but my god it's just so banale and forgettable as far as movies go. It's a decent piece of bombastic entertainment to turn off your mind for a couple of hours and that's it.

So why did you go watch it?

I've seen the first one, not in a theater though. Didn't feel like watching the sequel at all. My kids haven't said a peep about Avatar either, they're teenagers anyway not children anymore. 

Every year between Christmas and New Year's eve I make a 500 miles long drive just to watch a movie in IMAX. It's a yearly tradition that I do, to just clear my head and do a bit of a retrospective of the year, on my own. Whatever is at the cinema I will watch it. This year it was Avatar 2. I have to admit it, it was still a far better choice than last year's Mufasa.

That's a really cool tradition - I love both driving and IMAX showings. Luckily, I have an IMAX about 20 minutes by commuter train from where I live, but I do sometimes take a longer trip to a 4DX theater the next city over. The Dune movies are the epitome of IMAX experiences for me, and I'm planning on watching Avatar 3 on IMAX as well.
