Even though Gamefreak is not ambitious, its clear the Pokemon Company and Nintendo care a lot about quality. And gradually they are improving different aspects of the world. It's a shame though that it often feels like 1 step forward, 1 step back in terms of the actual games.
About 2-3 years ago the quality of Pokemon marketing material and quality of writing shot up quite a lot
