The pent up demand from 2021-2022 was followed by a surge in 2023 as stock became freely available; I expect most people who would have bought one in 21/22 just bought one in 23 anyway, so I don't think it would be much higher without the chip crunch to be honest.

The pentup demand from 2021-2022 was absorbed by an increase in sales of Series S. Make no mistake, at least 6 million units of current Xbox sales would have come to PS5 if both were readily available. Those sales can come back to PS5 eventually once Series S no longer is able to handle current gen game in acceptable state, but only if we have an extended generation. The odds are the sales Playstation lost will come back only on PS6, if ever

If those Series S buyers really wanted a PS5, they've had nearly 3 years of plentiful availability to pick one up.

As for running games in an "acceptable" state, the mass market has shown themselves to be very tolerant of low end visuals, as evidenced by the enormous success of the Switch and games like Roblox or Minecraft. Most casuals just wanna play shit like those Fortnite, COD, FIFA, etc, a Series S should be just fine for that.

Next gen it's looking like Xbox simply won't be an option for the mainstream consumer any more, but Sony still may not gain them all back as they may migrate to PC.
