By comparison, Switch 1 launched with a cross-gen title as its system seller and followed it up with an updated port as the first major post-launch release. Where the industry was at in 2012/2013 when XBO/PS4 launches were being prepared isn’t relevant, since that time the industry has moved on to have many major releases be cross-gen. PS did it with God of War & Horizon, Xbox did it with Halo & Forza, most 3rd parties have done the same. Metroid Prime 4 was announced in June 2017, it had troubled development and Retro took over and started over in January 2019. It being made for the ground up for Switch 2 makes absolutely no sense. |
I don't think you're actually trying to grasps the points being presented. Starting back to front.
No Metroid Prime being re-developed for S2 wouldn't make "no sense" since it already restarted development and by 2019 Nintendo would have already known plans for their next-gen system. Do you think Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Started development the same year the PS5 was announced? Next gen games begin their life well before a system is announced of course. As I mentioned I suspect the audience of the game will mostly be found on S2, I think its sales potential would be even high if it looked like a game built around the systems specs. Nothing nonsensical about that and it's not something which can be quantify. Not only that but this is also my preference which is subjective, I think something which some of you forget because you're too busy arguing instead of having discussions
Regarding cross gen, you're ignoring the logic why it became the industry norm. It's not just a trend, its a technical characteristic of diminishing returns and scalable engines. Hency why we didn't see much AAA support for Switch 1 whereas were seeing it a lot for S2.
Nintendo opted out of Cross gen for several of their titles where they instead focused on scope/scale that S1 wouldn't be able to deal with. As I said, it is a "choice" where and when cross gen is applied and subsequently that choice is subject to criticism. A game like Metroid could of been made for the S2. Hell even Pokemon ZA could of been made for the S2 exclusively. The latter wouldn't of sold as well, but that doesn't need to be the center of anyones preference.
As far as offerings I never said there were no "big" 1st party games, what I actually said...
"I think there's a bit of wow factor missing from the 1st party offering"
"Metroid Prime 4 should have been built for Switch 2 in mind from the very conception and really taken advantage of its full feature set. For me it's missing such a standout 1st party"
I was talking about a technical showcase which is immediately distinguishable from S1. This rounds of with probably the most important point which is that some of you forget the purpose of many threads is to offer personal opinion and subjectivity. You can run around saying "Invalid" but that's just your opinion lol
