It's not droughts in my case. It's just a lack of third-party games to get (since I have a PS5) and a lack of first-party games I'm willing to buy on launch day or shortly after.
Games like Luigi's Mansion 4 and Animal Crossing when they eventually launch? Day One. Fire Emblem and Yoshi? Not so much.
