I think Playstation is better known for 3rd party offerings than 1st party anyway. Playstation is just getting more and more expensive, games lack local multiplayer and are available on PC, that might be cheaper to upgrade in the long run than buy a new Playstation every 2-3 years. 

Overall I'd say third party is a bigger selling point for PS than first party, yeah. 

In Japan in particular the AAA audience seems to be shifting more to PC, while mobile and Switch gobble up the bulk of the mainstream audience.
