The average kid who was 20 when the PS2 came out, that core of their audience is like 45 years old today. Even if you were 25 when the PS4 launched, you're 37 now (!)

Nintendo has a better balance in this respect because they continue to get a ton of kids every gen so they always have a younger upswing of users coming in constantly but they've gained massive traction in retaining older players too. Nintendo is no longer "uncool" and the pop culture headwinds of the 2000s are completely over. I think also this is why Sony is suddenly try to push things like Astro Bot and LEGO Horizon, I think they are concerned that while they have a reliable base of consumers, it's mainly an aging base that becoming a bunch of "dad gamers".

There are young Playstation gamers and old PlayStation gamers. Some of them are "cool", others aren't... and that has nothing to do with their age.
