I guess like $30m of revenue per employee is just not enough to justify some investments and if you never give someone the opportunity to start a career in your company you can also never hurt that person with a layoff ! |
This feels like a rant long coming with some built up emotions about Valve.
But it has little to nothing to do with Microsoft laying off people now. Microsoft deserves to be slammed for these layoffs.
We could argue if not going on a hiring spree if your current employees are enough to carry the business is a bad or a good thing. I would gravitate towards good. And Valve is not the only company keeping hires to a minimum and growth to a more organic level. Nintendo does this as well, even throughout the pandemic as every game company was hiring like crazy they still kept it at a small level (albeit they were growing). Which results in a better integrated team and lesser need for layoffs.
