I do think a large part of this is Sony treating PS5 Pro as an enthusiast, high margin device. And way more so then the PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro was their first proper effort at a mid-gen upgrade and with an especially easy selling point of 4k. The 1:5 Ratio we saw at a very reasonable price made it clear to Sony the limited audience for such a device and they know that PS5 Pro is a way harder sell. There is no singular USP unlike 4k with 4Pro.
I suspect $599 will be the entry price point for next gen, with the added benefit that cross gen will continue for the foreseeable future for people on a budget.
