As a longtime Nintendo fan, Switch 2 really underscores how dramatically the company has shifted in the last decade.

This new console feels like it comes from a totally different company to the Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS, etc. Everything from the design language to the materials is night and day different.

Even the new game cases are a bold aggressive design with bright red, as opposed to the blue/grey cases in the 7th and 8th gen.

Heck, even compared to Switch 1 their whole approach feels more assertive and high end.

This might be the first time ever (maybe besides SNES) where Nintendo is entering a generation with a solid sense of direction. Just keep making good games but now on stronger hardware. We don’t need PS5 specs; a beefed up PS4 is more than enough.

Yeah while they definitely came out of the gates firing on all cylinders with Switch 1, it still felt like a roll of the dice for them, whereas this time they have a proven strategy and are confident in it.

Even with the console itself, Switch 2 feels more like they tried to best the original in every way. For example, they could have cut corners by leaving out features with raytracing, or going with a smaller 720p/60Hz display, but they didn't.
