War is bad for everything - including economy, pretty much always. In the case of the russia ukraine war it has impact on energy prices as you say (although it has the side effect of more investments in solar and wind). It also affects trade through the east, the new silk road. And Ukraine and Russia both were trade partners in some regards to european countries, Ukraine is for instance an important source of agricultural products. That is naturally affected negatively with the ongoing war.
Also there are certain side effects of a war I am not happy about. The war boosts the bellicist voices in all of europe and makes war overall more likely. This is obviously not great.
About Putin... I don't know anymore. The older he becomes the less reliable, the more random and volatile he seems. He has proven that he is not shying away from military aggression even if it is hurting Russia a lot as the current war does. So I am not thinking that anyone really is safe from Russia as long as Putin still claims the power. I hope the Russians can get rid of Putin soon.
