Mark Carney is the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, and as the leader of the party currently in power, will be the Prime Minister of Canada at least until the general election, replacing Justin Trudeau.

Hopefully he'll be able to both navigate the trade war with Trump and solve some of Canada's more pressing domestic issues along the way, and if so, hopefully he'll be able to defeat the Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre in the general election. I don't know much about Carney, but I do think Poilievre would be bad news.

Considering how much the liberals shot up in the polls after Trudeau announced his resignation, to the point that they went from rock bottom to out polling the conservatives within a couple weeks, I think Carney will win this election.

Poilievre is simply too close to Trump for comfort for many Canadians, so the more Trump fucks up the worse his chances get.

So far, Carney has talked a good game about standing up to Trump and winning the trade war. I'm hoping he keeps that energy when he's in office. It's too easy to see Poilievre engaging in appeasement or even outright capitulation to Trump.
