I'm surprised nobody has brought this up (Unless I missed it).

If they release Switch 2 for $349/399, whatever the price is. They could also release a digital edition of the system for $50 or $100 cheaper (I'm not entire sure what the production costs are for a cartridge-based system as opposed to a disc-based system like the PS5 and Series X/S.

And while we're at it. They could even do that for Switch 1 for all the models and THAT could be the "price cut."

I can't see Nintendo foregoing physical game sales any time soon; maybe there could be a digital only Switch 2 SKU in like 2029 or something, or with Switch 3 even, but for now physical sales are much healthier on Nintendo than on PS/Xbox and Nintendo is a conservative company.

The supposed rumors of a digital-only Switch 2, namely at launch, do seem unlikely.

Nintendo is the one of the Big 3 that likes to have their cake and eat it too with game distribution. They really want digital sales but still have their own games mostly complete on the Game Card and know that Japan is more cash-heavy and physical media heavy than the USA and some other countries. Microsoft cares almost nothing about physical games anymore, and Sony cares a lot less than they used to.

Digital-only versions of PS5 and Xbox Series make some sense because they're slightly thinner without the optical drive and removing the optical drive probably saves $20 or more in manufacturing and licensing costs to Ultra HD Blu-ray. It also means more digital sales for Sony and Microsoft.

Even with Switch using custom Game Cards that are similar to SD Cards, how much can the Game Card slot on Switch and Switch 2 cost? $3? $5? $10? And it takes up almost no space whatsoever.

I really don't think a digital-only Switch 2 for $50 cheaper would help Switch 2 very much. $100 cheaper? Sure.

A Switch or Switch 2 small TV-only console would make the most sense to be digital-only or have a digital-only SKU.
