First off he's not dreaded. That's not to say Canadians in general love him like MAGA, but they don't think of him the way the media wants you to think they do. Canada isn't just lefty Toronto or Vancouver, not by a long shot. Unless there's another miracle pandemic like event for the Liberal Party, which still may not save Trudeau, you're going to see Canada turn very blue next year. (Our Conservative Party is blue). Liberals all over the Country are getting destroyed in their more local elections and for similar reasons as to why the Dems lost 2016 and especially 2024.

Pierre Poilievre's campaign message for years now has basically been Canada first. He's just been smarter about it so he doesn't attract media negativity comparing him to Trump, so he doesn't call it Canada first. Trudeau has even shifted some, knowing how much trouble he's in, pursuing some of what Pierre has been stating he will do when in power, which Trudeau wouldn't be doing if it was so terrible and wrong, since he's so just and right...

Pierre sure isn't Trump, but he's certainly more Trump than Trudeau, and if that was such a bad thing, he wouldn't be on track to easily win a majority Gov next year. All this move by Trump is doing is bringing this all to light. It's not really happening because of Trump, it's been in the works for quite a while now. All Trump may be doing is speeding up the timeline.

Trade between us will end up worked out just fine. Canada didn't spend $6 billion to let this new bridge to Detroit go to waste.

Yeah, I am sure Canadians are just going to be all happy that Trump will enact a trade war with them.  Even the politicians who were very pro Trump in 2016 are singing a very different tune now.  The cool thing is when this all blows up in his face we are going to see exactly how much conservatives will be able to withstand the fall out.  You seem to forget that Trump won in 2016, then help lose the house, then helped lose the Senate and also helped Biden get elected.  So just saying that things will be all peaches and cream is getting ahead of yourself.  Trump needs to perform and if he truly going to go trade war route during this time, well know how that is going to turn out.

Just like Trump did not understand NAFTA nor did he understand trade relationships with China.  Just believing that these other countries do not have other options will end up like those policies did.  Trade relationships are very complex and we saw when faced with complex situations like Healthcare, Trump and his administration isn't the smartest people to handle such issues.

Wasn't Bill Clinton the great, big trade President? Wasn't Obama a great President with a booming economy and game changing healthcare reforms? Were things not going so great that America was going to crown their first Queen ever, destined for the throne? Wasn't she Bill's wife? Wasn't everyone 'with her'?

How did Trump get elected then, taking the House and the Senate? How did Trump get reelected, House and Senate again, after losing to Biden?

When it comes to getting ahead of yourself, well...

We'll see who this favors come 2028.

Our politicians said everything went great with their meeting and dinner with Trump recently btw.
