Yeah with games costing more and more to make, third party exclusives make increasingly less sense, which is why they're becoming rarer and why even Sony/MS first party games come to PC now.
Rebirth doesn't seem to have done much to boost PS5 hardware sales either, so while the deal for the whole trilogy was likely done years and years ago, and may have seemed like it made sense at the time, it's possible it may not have been worth it from Sony or Square's perspective in retrospect.

Despite licensing fees to more than one platform and engineering for more than one platform and PC, I agree.

I brought up those points as to why some see exclusives and console exclusives as more practical than multiplats.

I don't see the engineering/development argument. An Xbox Series X is pretty similar to a PS5. We're not in Xbox/PS2 territory or Xbox 360/PS3 territory anymore. Shoot, even Switch is easier to develop for third parties than most Nintendo systems in history (if not all of them) because the platform architecture among the Big Three (even if Switch is on a mobile chipset) and even compared to PC are becoming more standard and easier to engineer.

FFXVII really should be on Xbox in addition to PlayStation, and I hope the FF7 Remake eventually goes multiplat 4-7 years from now.

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)
