Kind of shocking you haven't played OoT tbh, it's the grandfather of Souls combat and modern 3D action-adventures/RPGs in general, on top of setting the blueprint for an era of excellent Zelda games to follow. I don't think it's nearly perfect, "only" #34 on my list of favorites this year, but definitely one of the most important games ever made (imo the 3DS remake is the best way to experience it these days just for the record).

I don't deny it's important, but everything you just said made it sound really unfun to me.  I don't find most 3D action games to be fun.  It would be easier to tell you the ones that I don't like than the ones I do.  But there are tons of 2D action games that I find fun.  So, when a person says how influential Ocarina is to 3D action games, I can only assume it is one of the main games responsible for ruining everything.  People say the same thing about Mario 64, and I do not like that game at all.

I would like to play Ocarina at some point to see what the fuss is all about, but I'm not terribly motivated to do it.  I'm much more likely to play Resident Evil 4 in the coming year than Ocarina.

I mean I know you like Dark Souls and that's an action-RPG, and it's certainly more similair to that than full-on action games, those are a fairly different vein. But fair enough if you prefer 2D games, I'm less into those myself with a few exceptions.

Out of curiosity which version of RE4 are you considering? I haven't played the remake yet myself, but I plan to do so before too long
