The biggest hurdle to VR atm seems to be the addiction to multi screen use, phone browsing or tv playing while 'playing' a game. Netflix even specifies that content needs to be multi screen compatible, as in dumbed down with plenty repetition so you can still follow the 'plot' while browsing and chatting on your phone.
I don't buy the isolation excuse as gamers have been using headsets for decades. I have to flash the light to get the attention of my kids lol, headset on, laptop playing you tube while playing a game on TV. Games aren't that engaging anymore, got to watch something else or chat with friends at the same time.
VR games focus your attention, you're playing the game, not just mindlessly grinding yet another match. I often go to VR for that focus, to escape all the other distractions for a while and just be in the game. But I prefer to use my surround setup, better sound, and not isolated from what else goes on around me. I can hear people enter the room and ask me questions, unlike my kids with their gaming headsets on. You don't have eyes in the back of your head anyway! Plus pass through mode is one click away.
But it's not comfortable enough yet. Headsets are still heavy, restrictive and it gets warm under there. And the focus on motion controls can be annoying, especially with a bad back and neck. It will get there eventually, yet for now it's still best enjoyed in shorter sessions. Good thing VR games are a lot more engaging and half an hour feels as rewarding as grinding a 3 hour battle in FF16 or grind materials in TotK. (Would love to play that in VR but not with all the grinding for upgrade resources) |
VR Labo 2.0 coming to our rescue on Switch 2.
'Bout to shit my pants on my way down to the Depths hahaha.
Btb, I got the Quest 3 today(with a charging dock). Not being 100% if I'll use it only for standalone experiences since I'll prolly get a beefy laptop in the foreseeable future to play PCVR as well but I'm glad to finally make the jump back in after 7 years when I had my first experience with the Oculus Go.
Will give my impression back later
