Disney/Comcast likely won't own anything except the streaming rights, the same way that The Sandman is a DC IP which they own in its entirety but they passed on having it on HBO Max and it instead went to Netflix, if Netflix cancels the show then Gaiman can then shop it around elsewhere because Netflix doesn't own it and I believe DC/Warner Bros are still involved in production.

It's the new leaderships fault, Zaslav is cutting a bunch of corners in an effort to save some quick cash as Warner Bros Discovery is in a lot of debt, they've been cancelling films/TV Shows for tax write offs and removing content that they own from their own service so they don't have to pay residuals, it also represents a change in focus, animation is hit hardest because Zaslav wants to focus elsewhere.

That’s my big problem with Netflix, they cancel most of what they start. While Apple has a relatively small content volume compared to Netflix, it’s all either complete or in progress. The issue with Netflix is the large volume of incomplete/will never be completed shows. There are a handful of shows that are safe: The Witcher, Bridgerton, Squid Game, and Stranger Things. With Apple, it’s more or less every show that’s safe: and they all seem to have insanely high budgets—where Netflix feels a bit hit and miss (although some, like Bridgerton are oozing with gold infusion, but if Marco Polo proved anything—those high budget ones tend to be in constant danger of cancellation). I’m unfamiliar with Hulu, I’ve heard of its existence and that’s about it—so, I can’t comment. Disney seems decent as well with content, although I watch it for the stuff it got from Fox and haven’t paid close attention to its Disney cartoon or super hero stuff (except X-Men, I love most of the X-Men stuff, even the stuff people hate… maybe particularly the stuff people hate, I loved First Class, the Wolverine films, and the Dark Phoenix film; and I think most of us can agree on the Deadpools…The more popular films - Days, Apolcalypse, and the original trilogy - didn’t resonate with me like they did most people, I like them, but don’t love them like the other films).

Apple Plus acquiring DC distribution rights would be ideal… although, I think Amazon Prime has basically the one Super Hero TV show I’ve liked, so far, with The Boys… But what I like about Apple Plus, is they delve more into the grittier and more dramatic content as well.

My favourite show on that platform is an alternate history drama with some science fiction elements called For All Mankind. It’s fairly gritty, created by the Battlestar Galactica remake creator, Ronald D. Moore. This show is bursting with high budget production, and they do a very good job stylizing everything to the correct decade. Apple Plus’s special features have a lot of old-school Director’s Cut/Extended Edition DVD-like features all the special features. Each season (except 1) is a snapshot or a few snapshots into new decade (season 1 is the 1960s and 70s). As the show progresses, little documentaries and news casts unlock in the special features that detail some of the major alternate history events; they’re dressed up to be like the era they’re set in… What happened with the Challenger? What about the Soviet standoff? How about John Lennon? Everything has film-level budgeting; and the soundtrack is absurdly good featuring popular music from across the decades (kind of like what Goodfellas did). I think Apple has some sort of deal with Sony since all their shows seem to feature Sony music artists heavily (at least from what I’ve seen). One episode of For All Mankind features the song Well Well Well by John Lennon and Come as You Are by Nirvana as the scene drifts into the 1990s. (Sorry, I know I got WAY off topic, I just love talking about For All Mankind).
